Irig & Fruška gora

The tradition of growing grapes and making wine in Srem and Fruska Gora dates back to the Roman Empire. It was was the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Equitus Probus, born in nearby of Sirmium (today’s Sremska Mitrovica), who first planted vines, in the 3rd century A.C.

In the family of the founders of the Tomcat’s wine cellar the grapes are grown and wine is made for generations.

The winery’s current form and scale, as a professional enterprise, were established by Sava Jojić – Mačak in 2005.

The current winery building was constructed and equipped in 2004.

Production capacity is 75,000 liters of wine.

The winery has stainless-steel tanks, as well as oak and acacia barrels and casks.

Tomcat’s vineyards are located in the FRUŠKA GORA wine-region.

Tomcat has got 15 hectares of vineyards, and all the grapes used for the wine comes only and exclusively from these vineyards.

They are all located in the immediate vicinity of Irig, on the southern slopes of Fruska Gora.

The altitude varies from 280m to 350m above sea level.

The composition of soil: a combination of clay, loam and sand.

Latitude: 45.2 ° N.G.W.

Climate: moderate continental climate, ideal for white wines and red wines of modern style.

During preparation of the land and planting of vineyards, we hired experts from Italy, from the wine region of South Tyrol – Caldaro, with the desire to obtain modern professional concepts of planting and technology.
